Delta~db is a sound dampening or sound damping coating for structural and mechanical noise generated through substrates and surfaces.
Sound has two major ways of traveling - one through substrates and one via airborne movement. To decrease sound prior to airborne transmission it is very important to "kill" or dampen the noise vibration prior to its release to the airborne state. Delta~dB has special materials which are encapsulated in a high grade acrylic based binder that provides damping across the various frequency ranges. In fact, Delta~dB was tailored to control this transmission, turning the energy into low grade heat. This translation offers an efficient means to "killing sound" through the substrate or surface. For more information on sound translation please see:
How sound travels.
Delta~dB offers a very cost effective solution to sound damping problems in a flexible monolithic coating format. Our unique chemistry and well proven Dispersion 2™ technology gives the best in sound damping abilities in an easily applied spray, brush or roll format. Delta~dB can also be applied quickly without cutting or taping bulky type materials and having to glue and pin to surfaces. Its direct adhesion to the surface with its high grade resin system provides "no worry" attachment for years to come. |

| Marine Applications |
Delta~dB Sound Dampening can be applied direct to aluminum, stainless, brass, fiberglass, etc without the need for a primer. It can be applied via airless, conventional, brush, roller or SA Gun setup with ease. This coating is specially designed to be applied to a thickness of 40 mils (1.0 mm) in a single applications. Typical substrates apply two coats for the most cost effective sound damping characteristics, however more coats may be applied without any upper limitations. Delta~dB is a no VOC product and completely solvent free as it is water based. Cleanup is simple with soap and water. |
| Transportation Applications |

Delta~dB is an excellent lightweight material that can be applied to most any other surface to dramatically reduce road structural noise. This coating can be applied to the interior or exterior of a vehicle with ease damping the noise before it is released into the car, truck, bus, etc. Since it remains flexible when the coating dries, it will remain attached to the surface without any risk of de-bonding for years to come. |
| Other Applications |

Delta~dB can also be used on industrial and other equipment that produce high levels of noise due to structural translation. The coating can be applied direct to most surface to lower the noise prior to airborne release. When noise level safety is concerned, Delta~dB offers a very cost effective solution with minimal effort. Another added benefit is that the surface or equipment always remains viewable so that inspectibility never becomes an issue like it would be with conventional wraps and bulky sound insulation. |
| Sound Testing |
Delta~dB was tested to show the performance of the coating vs a non coated surface. The test was performed on a simple school bells. Since a school bell generates a lot of sound transfer from a little source, the result of a coated bell would show the differential easily. Both bells were setup in a test that exposed 10 lbs of force to ring the bell on a weighted arm. The microphone was attached in an identical place 1.5" from the bell source. The non coated bell weighed 105 grams and the coated version weighed 120 grams. Temperature for the test was 72 Deg F. Delta~dB was applied with a Small Application sprayer in two coats with approx 4 hours dry time in between coats. The coating was allowed to cure for 7 days.
The following graphs show the non coated version of the bell vs. the coated bell. The relationship of the graph is decibels (dB) on the "Y" axes - vertical area) and time of the vibration or sound on the "X" axes (horizontal area).

| Application of Delta~dB |
The coating can be applied with an Airless, conventional, brush roller or SA Gun. Prior to application on carbon steel, there will need to be some sort of primer material as the coating is water based. For aluminum, stainless, brass, fiberglass, etc, Delta~dB can be applied directly. Although this coating has a paint-like consistency, it is one of the few sound damping coatings that can support its weight on vertical and overhead surfaces to 40 mils (1.0mm) wet! This is important as the coating can applied quickly without the risk of sagging or sliding. Another great aspect is its rapid dry time. Delta~dB will dry to touch within one hour of application in temperatures above 70° F. Usually the coating can be recoated at this time so that the end application is done within your specified time frame. |
